Affordable, supportive, personal.

I absolutely love working with writers and reading new work. i love spending time with a new story, helping you, the expert of your text, make it as strong as possible. But I also believe that good writing needs time and focus. To make sure I’m spending enough time with my mentees and their work, I take on a very limited number of mentorships a year.

I tailor each of my mentorships and editorial feedback sessions to reflect the needs of the writer. If the options below aren’t quite the right fit, contact me with an outline of what you’d like to work on and how, and I’ll get back to you with some suggestions.

Mentorship costs

  • One-off consultation: £75

A one-hour zoom call where we talk through your manuscript or story idea. These are tailored to your needs - we can develop the story together, assess plot weaknesses, character development, narrative arcs or workshop any challenges you’re experiencing. I won’t read your work but will help you work through issues and offer solutions.

If you're looking for a birds-eye view of your work, or just want to talk through a specific problem, this is a great place to start.

  • Three-month mentorship: £250

Three months of one-to-one zoom calls that will strengthen your manuscript. After an introductory call, I’ll design a program based on your initial requests, and assign ‘homework’. We’ll meet once or twice a month, and I will help you develop your craft and actively work on developing solutions and ideas with you, so that by the end, you will have learnt new techniques. We’ll tailor the mentorship to suit your needs, as well as where you are in your story.

This mentorship is a lot more in-depth than editorial feedback, because I will be teaching you alongside editing your work. If you have a piece of text you’ve been working on, but feel stuck, or like something’s missing, and want an experienced writer to work through it, this is the option for you. I’ve written, published and been edited in three different genres, and have years of experience editing long-form creative writing.

  • Six-month mentorship: £400

Everything that comes with a three month mentorship, but we’ll spend even longer together and be able to tackle more writing challenges together. In the shorter mentorships, I tend to focus on the biggest structural challenges around plot, pacing and character, but if you want to get into he nitty gritty of the craft, such as dialogue, tone, sentence structure and more, this is a good option for you.

This option may also suit you if you have an idea for a story but no idea how to begin writing it. I’ll set you homework and word counts so you can work towards a finished manuscript within half a year. I’ll also be able to read much more of your work!

To avoid overlap, I tend to only take on two six-month mentorships a year.

  • Editorial feedback up to 15k words: £125

If you’ve written a good chunk of your book and want feedback, I will read up to fifteen thousand words and provide editorial feedback. This may include assessing: how believable your characters are, plot development, emotional tension, narrative voice, pacing, prose, dialogue, setting, tone and more. I’ll annotate the text with feedback and suggestions for improvement, and end with a one hour call with you talking through the work, as well as giving you a plan of what to work on next. This option is good if you want to test the strength of an idea and learn more about your strengths and weaknesses as a writer.

NB: Editorial feedback is not the same as copy-writing (which focuses on spelling, grammar, continuity etc).

  • Editorial feedback up to 40k words: £300

This is everything that the fifteen thousand word editorial feedback provides, with a much bigger chunk of text. Forty thousand words is at least two thirds of a book (congratulations!) so this option includes a call at both the start and the end. We’ll begin by talking through your book so I can understand your vision, and end with me talking through the feedback and outline a road map for you to follow to help you complete your vision. You’ll get an annotated document as well as a reading list of books I think will help elevate your text.

If you have written an entire book and want editorial feedback on the whole thing, contact me to discuss further.

  • Skillswap/pay what you can

Writers are often underpaid or not paid at all. If you’re a young or low-income writer who wants support, I offer one-hour zoom calls in exchange for a skill swap or pay-what-you-can basis. This is based on an honesty system, no explanation is expected - contact me to discuss further.
